Right side buttstock has a sharp clear Argentine crest cartouche, and right side of receiver area has a crisp matching serial number. When Argentina sought to adopt a modern, repeating rifle for its military in the late 1880s, it was at a time when Paul Mauser’s recent designs offered the state-of-the-art. Granted, these are unlikely events with factory cartridges. For sale is a Mauser 1891 bolt-action rifle in an unknown caliber, but possibly 7.65x53mm. There is no safety lug on the bolt to help keep it in the gun in the event of a high pressure event, and there is no provision for the safe escape of gas in the event of a ruptured case. This rifle has NOT been import marked, and like all model 1891 rifles the receiver crest was arsenal-removed prior to export. The 7.65 Argentine Mauser of 1891 is pleasant to shoot but it is not as safe as later Mauser models. The wood maintains an absolutely stunning finish, showing only minor wartime handling wear with an arsenal repair made to the foreend. This rifle is in stunning condition for it’s age, with blued steel finish showing very little wear.
